The team at NDS is celebrating the New Year (and not just because the sun is making an appearance!) Having just completed a major solar installation in the heart of London’s warehouse and food manufacturing district, Park Royal.
A local bakery, wanting to take advantage of the free energy from the sun, came to us with a clear goal: reduce energy costs while complying with local council planning regulations. With a newly refurbished metal roof ready for transformation, our team delivered a high-efficiency solar solution tailored to their needs.
After a thorough consultation, we designed a system that maximised power generation based on the bakery’s unique operational needs. With both retail and production facilities under one roof—retail operating throughout the day and production running later—the East/West-facing roof was strategically divided. This setup ensures that the bakery benefits from the west-facing panels, which capture the late afternoon sun when production is in full swing.
To deliver a robust and lightweight solution, our team installed over 5,000 fixings using the latest bracketry and rail components. The system features high-performance 415W JA Solar panels alongside Solis 110 5G Pro string inverters, which provide optimal efficiency with 16 MPPT trackers across 32 sets of strings.
From technical design and string layouts to planning and DNO applications, NDS handled every aspect of the project to ensure full compliance. Given the 15m installation height, thorough project planning and strict safety assessments were essential, as transporting materials to such an altitude presented unique challenges.
History
Since completing our first installation in 2021—a 44-panel system on a south-facing barn—NDS has been expanding rapidly. With over 70 installations completed, many incorporating battery installations, this latest project certainly hasn’t been our most complex.
Beyond installations, we’ve been working hard to share our passion for solar energy in educational settings, helping to inspire the next generation about the future of renewable power.
In addition to this, we are proud to have opened a dedicated centre in Covent Garden, showcasing solar power at its very best. This space offers visitors the opportunity to explore cutting-edge solar technology and see firsthand how businesses can benefit from sustainable energy solutions.
We’ve also been attending major outdoor eco events, connecting with like-minded individuals and businesses who are committed to a greener future.
Conclusion.
We look forward to providing many more customers with low-cost, clean energy for years to come. A typical solar installation lasts 20-25 years, and once the system is paid off, it will continue to generate free renewable energy.
With off-peak rates offered by many energy suppliers, the return on investment for our battery installations can exceed 20% per annum. As a result, we’re seeing a strong increase in demand for these systems, allowing businesses and homeowners to maximise their energy savings.
The Park Royal project is another step forward in helping businesses harness solar energy for sustainable, cost-effective operations. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to power businesses across the UK!
